I've always had very pronounced creases and wrinkles on my hands - especially palms, and also on the soles of my feet. My skin is also generally dry, however can be relieved by a good moisturizer. Is there a name, though, for the creased palms/soles? I've had this condition since birth. My sister has it as well.
The condition is known as hyperlinearity of palms and soles. It is one of the signs of extremely dry skin and is more commonly seen in atopic individuals. Atopic individuals have generally dry skin. The condition arises due to reduced water retentive capacity of skin in atopic as compared to others.
Atopy genetically determined, and therefore it is not unusual to have others in the family affected too. The goal is to keep your skin hydrated as much as possible and restrict usage of soaps or detergents which also extract natural skin moisture. A urea or lactic acid-based moisturizer is particularly suitable for extremely dry skin of palms and soles in atopics.
