7 yo son has tiny white flakes of skin with a red undertone. We ve tried cleaning the area several times a day and applying lotion. The flakes disappeared for a short time and during that time the skin around his eye has the appearance of being stretched.
Hello, extensive xerosis like the one you mentioned at this young age could be a symptom of inherited ichthyoses like ichthyosis vulgaris. Now for this extreme dryness, lotions arenot the solution. You need to follow certain things to lock the skin moisture. 1) Bath with lukewarm water (not too hot), bathing frequency shouldnot be more than once per day. 2) Within 3 min post-bathing, apply a bland emollient like moisturex soft cream on the extremities, a small amount can also be applied on the face. 3) Reapply the emollient again during evening. 4) Donot use harsh soap for bathing, use emollient soaps like dermadew soap. Visit a dermatologist's office for evaluation of ichthyosis and associated conditions. Thanks Take care
