Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My blood pressure is elevated (156/87). I took it at my wrist with Walgreens wrist pressure monitor. I took it at Walmart and it was normal yesterday. I went to Walgreen to purchase one because I felt a bit out of balance this morning. This happened every time I tried to get out of bed. I googled this dizziness and it suggested I increase my water intake. I did and felt well enough to go purchase pressure monitor. What can I do until Tuesday, when I can visit my doctor.
If blood pressure has been correctly measured it is definitely elevated . You need to monitor your blood pressure on at least 3 different occasions to be sure that you have high blood pressure .don't rush to start antihypertensive . For your dizziness that is mainly when you stand quickly from sitting or supine position is suggestive of orthostatic hypotension . Normally when we stand their are certain mechanism by which blood is pushed from periphery that is lower limbs to heart that is against gravity . In orthostatic hypotension these receptors do not work properly and adequate blood is not pushed to heart causing decrease blood supply to brain and transient dizziness . So you are suggested that you drink plenty of oral fluid .try to use some support while standing and stand slowly . Their are certain drugs also that can cause or aggrevates your dizziness . If this do not subsides by these simple measures then you should consult your physician for further work up and management .
