However, if you are passing large amounts of mucus, it can be a sign of an intestinal infection Presence of excess of mucous and bleeding some times indicates large intestinal problem. Better to get few test done stool examination and colonoscopy which helps to conclude a condition in a better way.if there is a presence of excess of mucous and some clumps of bleeding in it too does one go to the hospital emediatly for tests if it happens over the weekend. or its no big deal and could wait to be seen and tested in a few days?

Do your stool examination test that help you to diagnose any problems.

Blood in stool that indicate any infection condition.
In gastroenteritis case blood come out in stool also.
In amiebic dysentery in stool egg or trophozoits are present.

In anal polyp or anal fissure case blood also come out from stool.

In colitis or colon cancer blood can coming out from stool.
In hemorrhoids blood is present In stool.

In inflammatory bowel diseases can rule out by colonoscopy.
