Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi! I am taking 25 mg Losartan and 25 mg Atenolol for high BP for a year. But just recently for a month, my BP fluctuate and rise up, I consulted my doctor and monitor my BP. My BP at home is lesser at home than in the hospital and he said that it is white coat hypertension. He advised me to continue the same dose. If my BP rise up to 180 he prescribed NIFEDIPINE 10 MG. But I consulted another doctor because my BP fluctuate. That doctor advised me to increase the dose to 50 mg Atenolol and 50 mg Losartan. I am afraid of very high dose. Please advise me.
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns. The latest dose which has been prescribed to you is little bit high. My advice to you is -
1. ASK your doctor to do your 24 hrs blood pressure monitoring, from that your doctor can actually understand how your blood pressure at home fluctuates and it also avoid white coat hypertension problem also.
2.50mg of losartan and atenolol directly from 25mg will be higher and might lead to decrease in blood pressure.
3.Regular daily walking for 1 hour and healthy diet can control blood pressure at normal levels with less medications. Thank you. I hope I have given you satisfactory answer.
