recently had an operation and for 3 days after my BP was low so was told to come of BP tablets and stay off for a while. have had several readings at the chemist around 147/90 153/ 80 used a freinds monitor on sunday had 124/71 pulse 80 125/61 pulse 88 131/76 pulse 80 Today I went to the surgery and it was 162 /87 I was advised to go back on medication which was 1 Plendil ( feladur) and 1/2 Atacand. would this be a suggestion you would agree with. It was nice to think I didn t have to take them but...
Hi welcome to HCM. Blood pressure fluctuations in your case are as a result of post operative status.Surgery is associated with significant stress and catabolic state that can lead to fluctuations in blood pressure.Its advisable that you monitor your blood pressure in the standard 3 positions of supine,sitting and standing and check out the mean blood pressure.If the value is found out to be greater than 140/80 m of Hg,you need the prescribed antihypertensives or else not.Most of the times these values regress with time.Restrict the intake of salt to less than 6 gm/day.Have a baseline ecg and 2 dimensional echo before you finally consider yourself a hypertensive.Consult your cardiologist for further queries.
