I flew home from vacation about two weeks ago. Noticed pressure in my ear which did not go away but got worse. There has been some cracking. Went to ENT physician and was told the pressure was up in my ear and probably had fluid build up. He prescribed 4MG Dosepk Methylprednisolone. Does this sound appropriate? I did try over the counter Sudafed to see if it made a difference, but did not work. (Do I have to pay for this answer??)
Hi..welcome to HCM.. the fluid build up thing we call it as serous otitis media..the fluid is usually will not have any organisms so antibiotics are not advised...you know there is something called eustachian tube which connects the middle ear ( fluid build up part ) and nasopharynx which drains the ear... So I recommend decongestant tab levocetriIne with phenylephrine combination one tab at night for 5 days after food at bedtime ...nasal drops oxymetazoline three drops three times in each nostril for 7 days helps in draining the fluid by opening the eustachian tube...and do valsalva maenover That is pinch your nostril and close and blow air through mouth keeping the mouth close..so ear enters your ear through the eustachian tube and helps in clearing the fluid ..do this method five times a day...well that's all you get relief ...no need of unnecessary medications ... If not relieved write me back on HCM Dr Paparaja MBBS MS....
