Suggest Remedy For Food Going Down The Wrong Pipe

A week ago I was eating spaghetti and felt a small piece go down the wrong tube. I coughed an coughed but never felt like it came up. I can breathe but feels like there is lump in my throat when I swallow. Still feels like there is something there. Almost feels like it is in the back of my throat. Wondering what to do. Should I gargle water? Will that help maybe get it out?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

It is not surprising to engulf food into the larynx or upper trachea tube due to non synchronous movement while mastication and swallowing.

You will immediately cough out those food particles with tear in the eyes or redness.

You may feel the food particles as a lump inside your throat for initial 1 day but it will be relieved by itself after that,so no need to worry much.

Here, you can go for gargling of water but it won't be much needed as this kind of symptoms subsides automatically by the time.

I would advice you to take care while mastication and swallowing or not to talk during eating to avoid future recurrence of this incidents.

Regards,
