Suggest Remedy For Frequent Motions After Taking Two Doses Of Fleet Enema

My 89 yr old dad tried to give himself a Fleet enema and it did not work so well so he drank the solution of a second Fleet enema. He has been going to the bathroom frequently. How serious is this? Should I take him to an emergency room? Forget it. I did not know this was paid advice. Sorry to have taken up your time. I will call Poison Control. Please delete my email, thanks.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Looking at the age of the patient I will recommend you to take him to the emergency room since frequent motions may give rise to severe dehydration along with electrolyte imbalance which can be life-threatening in elderly patients. However give plenty of fluids preferably mixed with rehydration solution this will help a lot.

I hope this was helpful do let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,
Dr. Akash Kumar
