Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 6 month old I give her complementary food for 2-3 time a day along with breast milk since last week She is passing watery green stool 2-3 times a day ? What I can do to bring yellow stools ? Any home remedies ?PAst history: When she was 4 month old she was admitted in hospital for 8 days for acute gastro intestinal infection
The normal color of stool is found due to changes in bile as it passes through the intestines.
When a person stools frequently then the bile does not have the time to undergo the normal changes and as a result, the stool is green. Green stool can also occur due to the types of foods used.
This is particularly so with green leafy vegetables.
If she is having bowel movements more regularly then she is at risk of dehydration and it would be best to use replacement fluids. Her doctor would be able to advise how much fluids she would need.
Let me assure you that green stools are normal in a child of this age. It occurs due to rapid transit of faecal matter through the large intestine. Please note that it is also normal for the child to pass stool for a number of times in a day. It is normal and you need not worry or do anything to bring yellow stool. No home remedies or medicines required. The past gastrointestinal infection is unrelated. Stay relaxed.
