Dear Dr, I have had intense itching for five months. I saw a dermatologist the first month of itching and she recommended useing Baby Shampoo. Last night, I realized that I had head lice. It has now been treated. My deliema is that I am schelduled for an excisional biopsy in two days of the Right I nguinal node. I have swollen cervical, anterior cervical nodes and shotty axillary nodes (with swelling tenderness and inflamation). I also had a sudden 20lb weight loss in a 2 week period a year and a half ago. My appetite has not returned. I also have occasional night sweats. My question is, Do you think the cervical node swelling is R/T the 5 month lice problem? Can the 5 month lice infestation cause axillary and inguinal node enlargement? Also, do you think I should go through with the excisional biopsy? Any information and direction you can provide would be greatly appreciated. K.
head lice can cause occipital lymphadenopathy and occasionally cervical. but it won't cause inguinal lymphadenopathy and will not cause loss of appetite and weight loss. so in my opinion you should go through biopsy.
