Pain Medicine & Palliative Care Specialist, Dr. Aman Upadhyay's Response
Sorry to hear about your headaches. If this onset was sudden, associated with fevers, or nuchal rigidity then you need to go to the ER to rule out meningitis. Assuming you do not have the above symtpoms and If the headaches seem to be located just at the base/back of your head, you may be suffering from a condition known as occipital neuralgia. This can be treated with neuropathic pain medications ( gabapentin, lyrica or pamelor) and usually respond well to occipital nerve blocks which can be performed by a Interventional pain physician.
