Suggest Remedy For Hearing Problem

I m 35-years old male. I need to seek advice on a sensitive matter. I have been suffering from Hard of Hearing since my childhood. I got typhoid fever when I was just few months old. It affected my brain, nerves and ears so badly that I got developed hearing problem and I would feel dizziness specially when I woke up in the morning. Dizziness is over by the passage of time but I m still weak in mental calculations/mental math. I can t hear whispering properly. I also have problem in understanding if speaker is at a distance, sitting in other room or his/her mouth is covered (I focus on speakers lips to understand the conversation). I often get confused about rhyming words. I have done PTA (Pure Tone Audiometery) test. I want to send you report and want you to review it thoroughly and suggest me how can i fix my problem on permanent basis. Note: Many ENT specialists have advised for Hearing Aids, but this is not a solution for me. Thanks you very much. Haseeb Aslam

Hello dear,
After going through your history, I believe you have some genuine concern and I will try to help you out of this situation.

From your history I understand and you should realize that you have got Sensorineural Hearing loss in both of your ears, which is mostly because of the drugs you have been given in childhood TO SAVE YOUR LIFE.

Sensorineural hearing loss means the weakness of the parts of inner ear responsible for processing of words we hear and also affecting of the nerve which transmits the signal from inner ear to the brain. It is a painful truth to accept that this condition is not reversible and you should accept it as it is.

Now, the next thing is to how to manage. Since childhood due to reduced hearing power, you have subconsciously learned the method of lip reading. That's why now you can understand the speaker when he covers his mouth when he speaks.

The only solution for this is wearing a Hearing aid which your doctors have advised rightly. There should be no hesitation wearing a hearing aid as people wear glasses when their eye sight gets weak.

It is your life and you have the right to live it fully. So go for a good hearing aid without any second thought and enjoy life. In your condition you will need a very good hearing aid, which might cost more. Remember one thing, it takes time to the brain to accept the sound from a hearing aid and get adopt to it. There might be some problem like whistling, intolerance while you use hearing aid for the first time. This generally weans of in a couple of month.

I hope I could solve your query. Please do not hesitate to clarify more doubts for the same situation.

Thank you for the way you are in my life.
