Hello, I took a fall while horseback riding today, and hit my head pretty hard. I was wearing a helmet, but right after the impact my nose started running pretty heavily. I m feeling okay otherwise. Slight headache and minor dizziness if I move my head too quickly. Nothing major. Is it anything to worry about?
HI. Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
The history of head-injury followed by running nose is to be taken as a case of CSF Rhinorrhea unless proved otherwise. This means the Fluid of the brain is leaking through the nose. This happened in head-injury as the bony plate between the Brain and the nose is paper-thin and is easily broken casing th ecerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) to leak easily into the nose. This is confirmed by following things.:: ENT Surgeon's opinion and direct visualization inside of the nose can tell the leaking site. MRI Cysternography after injection the dye into the spinal canal. Collection of fluid and subjecting to the tests of analysis.
Once detected you have to start proper treatment.Till then- Do not blow nose. This is a serious matter .
