Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doctor, I am a 55 year old woman. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure 10 years ago. I take amlodipine 5 mg. I take vitamins daily. I was feeling tired and with pain in my legs, mainly in my ankles, right hip and toes, as well as weakness in my muscle for the last 6 months; I saw a doctor and she ordered several tests. I have osteoporosis and she prescribed me fosamax; my results for ANA was 3.8%. What this really means? Thanks
Hi.. Amlodipine is an excellent medicine for lowering the blood pressure but in few individuals it can cause swelling in the ankle and cause discomfort on account of that. If your BP is well controlled and you do not have such ankle swelling you can continue with amlodipine. In case of swelling of ankle an alternative medicine would be lisinopril 5 mg. You can check with your physician on this. Your doctor has probable tried to find causes for your myalgia and that is why she ordered Anti Nuclear antibody test to see if you have any rheumatic ailments. The results of your tests suggest that you do not have significant rheumatoid arthritis or related autoimmune conditions. You can continue taking fosamax. It is a safe medicine for osteoporosis.
