Hello,
having that high blood sugar for a long time can lead to serious health troubles including coma and eventually death. Type 2 diabetics are susceptible mostly to dehydration. Type 1 diabetics are susceptible both to dehydration and acidosis. Acidosis is rather rare in type 2 patients. Drinking fluids helps but it's not always enough.
Did she look confused? Was she talking nonsense? Did she have a bizarre behavior?
She needs at least a complete clinical evaluation. Keep in mind that infections may increase insulin needs significantly and drive blood sugar to sky high levels. On the other hand kidney dysfunction during serious dehydration events may render hypoglycemic tablets dangerous.
The bottomline is that she needs urgent medical attention.
If you'd provided more details about her treatment and general condition, I'd probably be able to give you a more specific and detailed answer.
Kind Regards!
