A couple of weeks ago I had an infection in the back of my throat. There were white stuff in the back on my throat and it was very painful to swallow and even talk and also eat and drink. I went to the hospital and they gave me a penicillin shot and the white stuff left, the pain was not as painful but i still felt it. Now I think its coming back. Its hurt yo talk and swallow and I am coughing. The cough never really left either. WHAT IS GOING ON? Please help

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of an infection in throat a couple of weeks ago, painful swallowing, white stuff at the back of throat, got penicillin shot, coughing and other symptoms continue,
As per the history you have provided, this looks to be a case of severe pharyngitis causing all the symptoms.
I would advise you the following:
Consult your Doctor, preferably an ENT Surgeon for proper clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of throat swab, blood and X-ray Sinuses for proper diagnosis.
Get started on proper course of an antibiotic.
You also have to take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen if it suits you.
Symptomatic treatment with anti-tussive to control coughing.
Supportive treatment in the form of multivitamins, povidone iodine gargles,
Plenty of oral fluids to maintain hydration.
All these things done together alone can help you to get out of the problems.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
