Suggest Remedy For Iron Deficiency

I want to increase my iron levels so I can donate blood. I am always low everytime I want to donate but this time, I was not too low. My blood level was 12.4 and I have been taking 27mg of iron everyday and eating high iron foods. Should I take a 65mg Ferrous Sulfate pill? Would that be dangerous since my iron levels are normal? Should this pill only be taken during my period? Serious answers please! I was really hurt because I could not donate that day.

Infectious Diseases Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
I understand your concern.
I am Dr. Arun Tank, infectious diseases specialist, answering your query.

In my opinion you should continue your current iron treatment.

Your haemoglobin is not to much low. Continuing this medication can solve your problem with in short period.

You should continue your medication for whole month, not at the time of period.

Daily intake of iron gradually improves your ferritin level, which is the stoege of iron in your body.

Please take iron treatment until your haemoglobin level reaches normal level plus three month for the replenish ment of iron storage.

I will be happy to answer your further concern, you can ask me on bit.ly/DrArun.
Thank you.
