Suggest Remedy For Itching Red Bumps After Having A Tattoo

my mom got a tattoo a couple of weeks ago and now she has little red bumps all around it (not on it) that itch a lot and she states that if scratched it hurts(of course), I suggested that she put triple antibiotic ointment on it and that only seems to make it worse so she tried putting bacitracin ointment on it and this does not help either? also it seems to be spreading up her leg as well. any suggestions?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain itchy red bumps around the tattoo that is spreading even to legs seems to be due to allergic reaction and can be a delayed allergic reaction to the chemicals used in tattoo dyes while can also be due to some other allergens like any skin cosmetic, foods, detergents, poison ivy etc causing Allergic Dermatitis..

I would suggest you to start taking anti allergics like Allegra or Benadryl..
You can apply a steroid ointment like Cortisone over the bumps for relieving inflammation and itching..
You can also apply Calamine Lotion to soothe the skin..
Do cool compresses over the bumps..
Avoid scratching the bumps to prevent infection..
Maintain proper cleanliness..

In case of no improvement in a week consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can advise allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test etc to confirm the cause and treat acordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
