Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
I will keep a possibility of seborrheic
dermatitis. Itching and scab/ scaling being suggestive of seborrheic dermatitis.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest you to use a
ketoconazole based antidandruff shampoo, every alternate days.
Ketoconazole is antiseborrheic and antifungal and brings about rapid relief in mild to moderate seborrheic dermatitis.
In some cases, a shampoo alone seems insufficient and providing complete relief, therefore, in such cases, I usually ask my patients to use a topical potent steroid, twice daily at the
scalp skin.
Seborrheic dermatitis is a steroid responsive
dermatoses and topical
steroids bring about rapid improvement in this condition.
Once remarkable improvement has been achieved with topical steroids, usually within 2 -4 weeks, they can be discontinued.
Seborrheic dermatitis is a recurrent skin condition, therefore regular use of an antidandruff shampoo is important to prevent a recurrence.
