Hi Doc, I slipped and fell in the bathroom, hitting my left ribs and side by the side of the bathtub. I have been in pains for 10 days now despite taking Diclofenac injections on my ribs and back. i feel the organs are bloated on my left side just above the waistline and somewhere within my ribcage in my back (left). When i lie down on that side, I feel the spots are swollen and full . I also feel a numbing sensations (like an electric shock) in my left ribs. it is uncomfortable standing or sitting and i have to press down on it to retain any level of comfort. What do i do? the xrays show no broken bones.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi, Thanks for your query. As there is no broken bone in xray, it seems to be soft tissue injury.Numbing sensations (like an electric shock) could be due to injury to superficial nerve fibers. To get relief from the pain and for quick healing: 1. Do hot fomatation at the site. 2. Apply local anti-inflammatory gel 2-3 times a day. 3. Take anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen to reduce pain and local swelling or inflammation. 4. Do not lift weight or try to do exercise that involve painful muscles. Give proper time to heal.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more concern. Warm Regards.
