Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was wrestling with my best friend yesterday when he put me in a leg lock, but his foot slipped and he fell on my right knee. I felt a painful snap on the left side of my knee toward the inside of my leg. This happened last night, and since then I can't bear any weight on that knee, it hurts to bend and ice, tylenol and rest isn't helping. At this point I have it in a wrap, but i can feel it spasming. Should I see a doctor?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due injury of any internal structures of knee like ligaments or menisci. As you have pain on weight bearing a hair line fracture also should be excluded. An orthopedic examination followed by a X ray is atleast required to rule out the condition. MRI will be required in case of positive signs of meniscal or ligament injury. In case of severe injuries diagnostic arthroscopy might be required. Immobilization of knee joint , icing , elevation and NSAIDs will be helpful in relieving pain and inflammation temporarily. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
