i have a painful(to the touch) knot under the skin between my shin and calf muscle...it feels like some type of cyst....possibly pressing on a nerve because it is VERY sensative to touch...pressing it sends a shocking pain up my leg....ive hoped it would go away...it hasnt. ive been noticing it for approx 6 months...i dont believe it is getting larger....is this common?
Hello and welcome to HCM, A knot like structure between your shin and calf muscles which is painful and sensitive to touch could be due to swelling arising from the nerve. Swellings arising from nerve are usually painful and are characterized by shooting or shocking kind of pain. Imaging has to be done as first investigation. MRI is best suited for soft tissue swellings. This has to be followed by an aspiration cytology wherein cells are aspirated using a needle, spread on a slide and stained with appropriate stains. The stained cells are studied under microscope. This investigations helps to determine the site of origin and nature of the lesion.
