I have serveral boils over almost two weeks I have drained all but one of them the one on my right leg is excruciating it is now Oozing on its own I do not want to go to the doctor I do not think I am becoming septic. My mother in law gave me Gabapentin will this help pain?
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Multiple boils should be appropriately managed with Oral antibiotics along with topical antibacterial. If I was the treating doctor I would have certainly advised an empirical oral antibiotic for a week. My choice would have been one from the penicillin group (e.g flucloxacillin) or cephalosporin group (e.g cephalexin). Topically you may use an OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin ointment, twice daily. An OTC painkiller e.g Ibuprofen, twice daily is a better alternative to gabapentin for symptomatic pain relief.
