Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have just been diagnosed with pericarditis for the second time. The fist was in November of 2013. I have completed a course of 6 days of Ibuprofen, 400mg three times a day. I haven t taken any today as I wanted to see if symptoms had lessened. I don t feel the dull ache at the moment but am having the odd very mild stabbing pain in my heart area. How do I know when pericarditis has gone? My symptoms are pretty mild compared to what I have read other people suffer. My cardio output is still massively reduced. I was advised by my GP not to return to the gym until I have been cleared by a cardiologist. That appointment could take 6 weeks plus. I don t want to be out of training for that long if I don t need to be. Can I just take Ibuprofen to reduce any swelling and then go to the gym and do what I can?
No Gym / Avoid strenuous activity until it subsides – it could be hazardous An ECHO is often necessary – Cardiologist has to be consulted… You need further investigations to find a cause for the recurrence
