I have had a sore throat now for about three weeks. At first, it was very sore, took time off work, went to the doctors who said to rest, looks like a viral infection. I had around 10 days off. Went back to work on Monday, feeling much better, but since then I have continued to have a small sore throat that seems to swap sides.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain persistent sore throat can be due to chronic throat infection which can be bacterial or viral in nature while it can also be due to other causes like Acid reflux, post nasal drip etc.. I would suggest you to consult an ENT expert and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis..
He can also advise you investigations like Throat swab culture, upper G.I Endoscopy etc to rule out the diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly.. In case of infection antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, warm saline gargles and steam inhalation can help.. In case of acid reflux proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole or Omeprazole and antacids along with dietary adjustments like take short frequent meals, avoiding spicy food, doing moderate workout can help..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
