Suggest Remedy For Persistent Sore Throat

Hi I have an extremely sore throat since Xmas eve I have been taking the paracetamol and ibroprofen tablets as directed but still my throat hurts when swallowing food and water. It feels numb and like there's a lump when o swallow. No fever and no other cold like symptoms just a general feeling of being tired.. I had tonsils taken out when I was 4 and am now 30. I do smoke 10 cigarettes a day. When I look at my throat I can see a green patch right at the left side at the back and a white spot on the right at the back. Any ideas?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query persistent sore throat which seems to be due to infection of upper respiratory tract leading to inflammation of tonsils as well. Smoking cigarettes is exaggerating your condition. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with warm saline gargles and betadine gargles 3-4 times a day. For pain and swelling you should take ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Avoid hot, sharp , spicy food substances , do warm saline rinses and carbonated beverages. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and rule out condition like strep throat and viral infection . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics penicillin or amoxicillin or anti viral drug depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants and anti inflammatory. Keep brushing twice daily and use Listerine mouth wash. Keep drinking plenty of water

Hope your concern has been resolved.
