Allergist and Immunologist 's  Response
Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for you as follows:

1. From your symptoms, respiratory symptoms, urticaria and swellings (angioedema), I would first think of anaphylaxis reaction to mushrooms. So I would suggest you to consult an Allergist-Immunologist who will ask your symptoms in very much detail, including what, apart from mushrooms, did you consume before development of symptoms, each and everything.

After detailed history taking, an Allergist-Immunologist may prescribe you allergy testing. These are important steps to confirm cause of anaphylaxis.

2. Anaphylaxis, in simple language, is a serious allergic reaction. Unfortunately not too many tests are available to confirm its diagnosis. So it is best diagnosed by detailed history and supportive investigations.

3. If you are allergic to mushrooms, best option in my opinion is avoidance of mushrooms in future.

4. As you have still swollen hands, I would suggest you an antihistamine like chlorpheniramine for 3-5 days. Please note that it may cause sedation.

5. Such food allergies are usually not hereditary. So I would not suggest to worry from your daughter's side if she has not had any reactions to mushrooms.

6. For you also, please avoid mushrooms till you visit an Allergist-Immunologist and diagnosis of allergy/anaphylaxis is confirmed/ruled out. Further plan will depend upon your diagnosis.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish you the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
