Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently went to see an Acupuncturist, he s Chinese and did a Chinese type massage. One was massaging the abdominal area. He also gave me Gensing, ever since then my stools have been a dark brown to green to black. And a couple of times I have had diarrhea. Is my system just cleaning out or does it mean there is internal bleeding?
Hi. Thank for your query. Noted the history visit to an Acupuncturist, done massage, and took Ginseng; since then the stools have been dark brown to green to black and diarrhea couple of times. Wants to know whether the system is clearing up or have bleeding inside. The color of the stool is indicative of an intestinal infection and which in turn might have caused the bleeding that caused the stools to appear black. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Send the samples of stool for tests for three days including that for occult blood. Get started on a course of an antibiotic, metronidazole. Additional probiotic would help. Stop ginseng if given raw. See the response and you may be fine. If no relief, consult a Gastroenterologist for further evaluation and management.
