Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
If cannot go to the emergency room and want to treat yourself, I will give some pieces of advice.
• Firstly, I think your mother had a
hematoma that now is inflamed or infected.
• You can start an initial treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotic orally such as Cephalosporins combined with anti-inflammatory medication such as
Ibuprofen.
• Also, keep the leg elevated with pillows above the heart level and use
cryotherapy (ice packs every 20 minutes).
• Check the body temperature.
• If after 3 days with this treatment the situation is worse or the same, then you can go to the emergency room as it may need opening of the hematoma to drain it.
Wish your mother quick recovery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Edvin Selmani
