Suggest Remedy For Severe Cough, Abdominal Pain And Mild Fever In An Elderly Person
my 87 yr. old mother has vomited liquid (like water) dark brown, 4 to 6 times today, it is not the texture of coffe grounds, but the color. Low grade fever. Breathing is fine. Coughing pretty much. She complains her stomach hurts, but she has dementia so don't know how much. How should we proceed?
Severe cough is related to throat infection and can be managed by appropriate medications.
You should undergo routine blood works, stool investigations with ultrasound of abdomen and if all these investigations come normal then upper GI endoscopy would be helpful.
Treatment is mainly based on the underlying cause but symptomatic treatment can be taken like antibiotics, anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen and anti-emetics.
Give antihistamines for her severe cough
It would better to take her to a physician or gastroenterologist for further advise.
Thanks and regards,
