Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Worried Mom: Does your daughter play and is she as active as her friends? Is she getting good grades with satisfactory performance at school? Do you know where she is on the growth charts for height/weight? I am wondering where she is when plotted against her peers for her growth/height. You do not want her overweight by any means. And, children have growth spurts. She could be about ready to have one now as a matter of fact.
So, you take all of these factors into consideration before taking her to the doctors. You can make her a healthshake. There are recipes for these all over the web. You just take 6 oz of milk into a blender with a packet of breakfast powder. After blending this, add a fresh fruit like 1/2 a banana with a pinch of vanilla and 1 canister of cherry flavored greek yogurt. If she is lactose intolerant, we can work around that just let me know. Anyway, this one supplemental milkshake will boost calories, protein, calcium, vitamins and make you feel like you are doing something to help her growth, which you are. When she begins to eat normally, discontinue the milkshake. Good luck, Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
