Suggest Remedy For Soreness And Bumps In Throat

I had a tonsillectomy and UPP a month ago. I have noticed the past few days that it felt like something was stuck in my throat. I just looked and saw some bumps have formed in my throat. They are a little sore too. Is this part of the healing process? So far it has been pretty text book recovery.

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Since you have been operated 1 month back healing should be completed till now .
If I were your treating doctor, I would advice you Antiseptic chlorhexidine Mouth Wash twice daily .
Certainly above treatment will give you much relief but if relief is not upto satisfaction level then consultation with your ENT doctor will become essential.

Regards.

ENT Specialist Dr. Jagdish Chaturvedi's  Response
Hi. The little bumps in your throat resemble the description of what is called a granular pharyngitis. That would explain why it feels a little sore. It doesn't appear to be a part of the healing process since you underwent the surgery a month ago and these symptoms started a few days ago.

The surgery may have precipitated the pharyngitis though due to the exposed surface area after removal of uvula and the palatal arches to less humidified air. This can lead to dryness and is a good bed for viruses and bacteria to start an infection. Most granular pharyngitis start as viral infections and are easily treatable.

A good oral rinse and gargle with betadine or an antiseptic mouthwash before and after meals for 3 days should take care of this. If you start developing pain, difficulty in swallowing or fever then have yourself started on an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medications by your ENT surgeon.
