Suggest Remedy For Soreness And Discomfort In Right Ear
Hi there, I m a swimmer and recently I ve been having trouble with my right ear. I hear a hollow sound in my ear when i tap any part of my skull, it feels like my ear has water or something in it but I can hear just fine. It feels rather uncomfortable and annoying, what is going on and what should i do?
Hi, Thanks for the query. The symptoms you are describing can be because of two reasons: one, a debris or fungus collection in the external auditory canal and it is not an uncommon finding in swimmers. The treatment is cleaning of external auditory canal by an ENT and anti fungal antibiotic ear drops. Second can be the collection of serous fluid in the middle ear and this does not produce any pain and only symptoms is blockade and fullness feeling. Only thing against is no history of hearing loss and a partial effusion with air along with fluid can be a possibility. Please see an ENT and the clinical findings will help in diagnosing. Effusion responds to mucolytics and xylometazoline nasal drops. If not, myringotomy with grommet insertion is the solution. Regards
