Hi, my one year old daughter has a problem with her eyes. It started like a swelling on the area surrounding the black part of the eye and it started with one eye. It has now gone to both eyes. What could be the cause of this? could it be allergy or anything? this has not affected her play or eating. She is not itching so much but once after some time. Kindly advice
if the white part of the eye surrounding the black part is swollen, then it is most likely to be due to some form of allergy. The exact allergen may not be known in most instances but could be pollen in the air or even dust particles. If she is not affected by it then you may just observe the eyes. Give her oral antihistamin syrup such as Sinarest-Af, 2.5 ml at bedtime. Lubricating eye drops such as refresh tears, 1 drop 4 times a day will help soothe the eyes. If you notice any worsening or persistent swelling after a week, then get her eyes examined by an ophthalmologist for a closer look.
