Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi doctor Goyal Have p;eural effusion . TB was positive but with TB medication the fluid levels did not go out .on second time tapping the fluid tested and the doc thinks it is lymphatic caused by filariasis.Have swelling in feet for past 10 years . have started on Benocide what would you suggest . would a special diet help
Good evening. Diet has no rule to play in the pleural effusion. If the fluid tested positive for tuberculosis, and it is not responding to standard treatment, you need to check for the culture and sensitivity of the fluid. That will help check the response of antibiotics you are receiving to the tuberculosis organism present. If it shows resistance, then you may need 2nd line of tuberculosis medications
As for filariasis, if it causes pleural effusion, it will be both sided. But it is to be considered if the fluid is negative for tuberculosis
Hope the information was useful
