Hi,

The swelling of a knee joint is usually a sign of excessive synovial fluid in the joint as a result of inflammatory or degenerative arthritis (wear and tear). It would invariable result in restriction of terminal flexion (extreme bending as in squatting). The wear and tear can be ascertained with X-ray imaging of the knee.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist Jay Indravadan Patel's  Response
Hello,

what I see as per your age is there might be degenerative changes in the knee joint which has lead to changes in the knee joint. due to frequent mobility at the knee joint and also carrying weight, these kind of symptoms are common. I will advise you to do icing for reducing the swelling and pain. also some simple static quadriceps and static hamstring exercises for strengthening the muscles of the thigh which can help avoid such symptoms again in the future. also use knee brace to provide support to muscles of the thigh. In case you don't find any changes, an X-ray will be recommended and medicine can be assisted accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
