My 98 year old mother has swelling in her left leg much more than her right. She spends most of her 24 hours with her legs elevated and has frequent shortness of breath and wheezing with minimal exertion. Is there significance attached to the left leg being more swollen?

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist, Ajithkumar PA's Response
If you are having a sound kidney, your swelling may be due to the reduced flow of blood through lower veins. If it is so then there is definitely a relation with the respiration. She needs regular breathing exercises to rectify her breathing problems along with limb elevation. Both of this will help to improve circulation.
You can gain the help of a physiotherapist.
