Hello, i was born with jaundice. I had severe hives on my ankles and legs when I drank too much red wine at Christmas - took anti-histamenes but it went on for a couple of days. The itching would wake me up. Tonight my lip has swollen on the upper left side - like a botched botox lip job. I have been drinking a little wine recently, I really feel this is liver-related. I put some ice on it and have taken anti-histamenes. How long until the swelling subsides? I have to be at work in six hours (teaching in Italy) ??
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...
As per your complain it seems to be allergic reaction to some known or unknown allergen leading to Allergic Angioedema of lip and as it gets resolved on taking antihistamines it further confirms the allergic reaction.. I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and after a clinical evaluation he/she can advise you to get allergic testing done like Food Challenge test, RAST test [antibody specific] to rule out the specific allergen so that you can prevent exposure to it and even an Immunotherapy can be given to you to reduce the severity if allergic attack.. As of now continue taking anti allergics and do cold compresses. Avoid alcohol and drink plenty of fluids and water..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
