Suggest Remedy For Swelling Of The Vein In The Arm

I just slipped and fell. I slammed my arm into a crate resting against the wall during the fall. The arm has two gashes (not stich-worthy), but what I m concerned about is the INSTANT swelling that happened to the vein and surrounding area where my arm hit the crate. Should I be concerned about a clot or is this something normal that will just recede with time?

Hello,

The swelling that you got at the site of trauma is a contusion and is the result of seepage of fluids from the damage of fine blood vessels - capillaries and fine venules. This is normal and in most cases will resolve in a few days. You should clean the area of injury and use a topical antibiotic and dress the wound with sterile dressing. If it gets infected it can lead to a clot in a small percentage of cases.
Take care
