Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
After a hard blow to the shin four days ago, the area from mid shin to the toes is blackish purple and very swollen. The golf ball size area of the impact is quite sensitive to pressure. I ve used ice and elevation and I take prednisoone for my kidney transplant which ought to help the inflammation. Tylenol helps the pain, but I am concerned about possible infection due to my compromised immune system. The skin wasn t broken, but I m being cautious.
You need to take X-ray of the leg to rule out any bony injury and take broad spectrum antibiotic like Augmentin along with anti inflammatory drug like Diclofenac twice daily.
Clean the wound daily with anti microbial solution .
Please note that this is closed compartment and very much prone to get infected .It is advisable to consult qualified Orthopedic surgeon or General surgeon to monitor the progress of the wound. Dr.Patil.
