Suggest Remedy For The Nits In Hair

My son got his hair cut today and the stylist found nits that were white and clear in his hair. We are trying to figure out the source of the lice. For his to have those nits in his hair, when would he have been exposed. He did have a friend spend the night on Friday, would that have been too soo?
