Suggest Remedy For Throbbing Headache

Hi I have been suffering from daily headaches ( on one side ) for the past 3 years and in fact I had consulted a neurologist as well for the same. He put me on a dose of Ciplar 40 ( Beta Blocker ) which helped to a certain extent but with a strange result - now the headache incidences have gone down but now whenever there is one, it is on the left side while earlier it used to be on the right side overwhelmingly. Also, my headaches start around one to two hours after I get up in the morning. I feel quite fresh when I get up but soon my head turns heavy and I start feeling slight drowsiness which later transforms into a fully blown throbbing headache. If not headache, then it begins a gnawing, gripping tension cum pain the face/upper jaw area. Kindly help because this condition is severely impacting by ability to focus on work. Thanks Gaurav

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

First of all, you should do some investigations such as measuring blood pressure and if it was high, you should receive the medical treatment, do kidney function tests, lipid profile, an ECG, an ECHO on your heart and Doppler ultrasound on carotid arteries on both side of your neck. If the results were normal, you could do an CT scan brain to exclude focal brain disorders.

Second, the irregular menses and the hormonal therapy for woman for contraception or replacement therapy can cause headache, so the patient should ask a gynecologist for help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mustafa, Neurologist
