Suggest Remedy For Weird Behaviour In Person Suffering From Breast Cancer

My mother is 72 years old and has had breast cancer and undergone chemotherapy and radiation over 10 years ago. she has always been a little scatter brained but recently she has begun talking nonstop. It is hard to even get her to be quiet long enough to ask her a question. It seems to e getting worse. What could be the cause of this and is there anything that we can have checked to help her?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM
As I can figure, your mother has
1) problem of talking nonstop
2) history of breast cancer with chemo 10 years ago.

The complaint of talking non stop is suggestive of mania like psychotic condition, which could be a reaction to a stress out of cancer suffering. However it is important here to asses
1) content of talk wether sensible or non sensible
2) need for sleep.
3) energy levels
4) ideas of hopelessness or suicide
5) irritable behaviour, assaultive aggressive behaviours
6) social impairment

These are the associated complainants and areas of functioning needs to be assessed.

The second condition that is likely, would be a delirious state, which could be due to electrolyte imbalance, poor nutrition, medications, etc. Characteristic picking like movements are observerd, person is disoriented to place and person, etc.
Considering her age and medical status, I would advice you to show her to a local psychiatrist, as her complaints are more consistent with a secondary psychosis, or delirium.

Welcome for further suggestions
