My 9 year old has had a common cold for a few days. Today is seems to have taking a turn and he has been very weak with a mild cough. His breathing seemed labored alot of the day. Now that it is late into the night, he is wheezing. It is a whistling sound with a slight concave motion in his chest. What can I do to help him through the night and is it safe to wait until morning for him to be seen by dr. No other symptoms and no history of asthma.
You are mentioning your child have dyspnea and wheezing sound ...
Let me know you wheezing sound occurs when bronchi cobstricted by inflammatory swelling... So by bronchoconstriction this symptom can occur... Here it could be asthma or bronchiolitis... Lower respi infection bronchiolitis treated with antibiotic....
If is due to allergy by asthma like condition then bronchodilator like levosalbutamol and budesonide given through nebulization for reducing bronchi swelling... Short course steroid also needed....
Investigation can be done are chest xray and spirometry..
I have given you advise and investigation according to history but it will not replace auscultation and respiratory examination... Which guide further for investigation ...
Take care.
