Suggest Remedy Needed After Child Eats Own Stool

My son ate some of his own poop yesterday. Im not sure how much, there was just a little on his hand and lip. He has a fever today (101.9 rectal) and has pretty loose stools, but they have been loose since the one he sampled yesterday. Should I be worried or take him to get checked out?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Fever and loose stools are unlikely related to his own stool intake. This suggests acute gastroenteritis. Give him acetaminophen 3-4 times a day for fever. Give frequent sips of fluids like ORS after each stools to prevent dehydration. If not getting better in 2-3 days, stool becomes blood stained, or if he becomes lethargic and not feeding, kindly take him to pediatrician for further management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
