Hello Iqbal,
Did you give up medications for reducing
cholesterol on your doctor's recommendation? If you have stopped taking medicines on your own, then I would advise you not to do so on your own please. It may harm you to take such decisions without consulting your Doctor.
In order to bring back cholesterol to normal range you must adopt a healthy diet and lifestyle. A well- balanced diet consisting of whole grain cereals like whole wheat four chapatis, rice preferrably brown rice or parboiled rice if it is available in your region, fresh fruits and vegetables in the form of raw salads, low fat milk (without cream) and milk products like curd/cheese (paneer) ensure you have a healthy diet. Among non-vegetarian foods, it will be better if you can limit your intake of red meat which increases cholesterol. Have lean cuts of meat (remove fat from muscles), avoid organ meats like
liver and
kidney as they are rich in cholesterol, avoid rich gravies, oily and fried foods like puris, paranthas. Prefer using refined vegetable oils for cooking like canola oil, sunflower, peanut oil etc. Reduce oil intake by using low fat cooking methods like steaming, pressure cooking, stewing, stir frying and boiling. You must avoid yolk of eggs and can have eggwhites only preferrably boiled egg whites or poached ones.
Prefer white meat like chicken and fish and have them as curries with less oil. Avoid biryanis and kebabs which are laden with lots of fats. Instead you can go for roasted or grilled chicken and fish. Fried forms must also be avoided.
If oats and oat bran are available in your region, then you can include them as a part of daily diet as they help in lowering cholesterol significantly as a part of low fat diet.
Try to increase physical activity. Go for a brisk walk 30-45 minutes daily or atleast 5 times a week to lower cholesterol.
Hope you will benefit from my advice. In case you have any more queries, you can always ask me. I will be glad to help you.
