Suggest Remedy To Bring Blood Sugar Level Down

I have had type 2 diabetes for 25 years. Was on Actos but due to bladder cancer concerns requested to be taken off. Two years ago my blood sugars were running so low with Lantus insulin (6 units daily) I was able to stop taking insulin. I am obese and lost about 50 lbs. The doctor changed me from Metformin to Kombiglyze XR and I also take Amaryl. I didn t feel the control was that great. Recently my blood sugars soared to between 300-400 so he put me back on Lantus. I got up to 27 units daily but didn t seem to get my blood sugars below 200 so we tried Novolog. Tonight I was 307 after dinner so I took 20 units. Six hours later I was still 225. I feel like something is wrong that I can t get my blood sugars under control. I have tried using pills and insulin, I ve tried using just long acting insulin, tried just short acting insulin, but they. are rarely under 200. My daughter is type 1 (since 4 yrs. old) so I am very familiar with diabetic control. Any advice that might help me? Thank you!

I understand your concern.
Actos is a beautiful tablet to control sugars. Yes i do agree that there are some concerns about bladder cancer but the risk is very negligible. The reason I am telling you this is because i dont think a combination of amaryl with saxagliptin/metformin along with little insulin is gonna help.
My suggestion
The main concern is now to bring down sugars to avoid any diabetes related complications.
First step - Bring down Sugars using a basal-bolus (lantus at night and short acting insulin before each meal)regimen along with metformin 2gms/day.
Once sugars are fairly controlled insulin regimen can reprogrammed using twice daily premix insulin.
I am confident this plan will work well to bring down your sugars.
