Hello and thanks for writing in.

I understand that you are frustrated with your sister's behaviour whenever she doesn't take medication. It is important to understand that Schizophrenia is a chronic mental illness whichneeds regular and long term ttreatment. Whenever medications are not taken properly, there will be a relapse of symptoms. So, the reason your sister is behaving abnormally and becoming violent is because of the uncontrolled illness.

It is quite common for patients with Schizophrenia to not take their medication regularly or even refuse to take medication altogether. This is because they lack insight or understanding about their own illness.

So, usually, the caretakers should take the responsibility of giving the tablets regularly. If she is refusing to take, then you can consider the option of long acting depot antipsychotic injections, which can be given once or twice a month.

If she is very aggressive and unmanageable at home, then you can consider inpatient treatment for a brief period, till her symptons are brought under control.

Best wishes.

Hello and thanks for your query.

I understand that you are worried about your sister's aggressive behaviour. You have mentioned that she doesn't take her medication properly and this is the reason for her abnormal behaviour.

Unfortunately, persons with Schizophrenia don't have an insight or understanding about their illness and that is why they refuse to take medication.

If you are not able to convince her to take medication and if she is becoming too unmanageable at home, then you need to consider admitting her in a psychiatric hospital for a period till her symptoms are controlled. You can contact your local social services team to arrange for her hospitalisation and in patient treatment.

Best wishes.

Hello,
Schizophrenia is serious mental disorder. its very much troublesome for the patient and his/her family members. the patients usually deny taking medications.
in such cases, one way is to give long acting depot antipsychotic medications. one injections is given every fortnightly to every monthly. or another way out is to give medications which come in the syrup form with the food.
it is almost impossible to control the behavior of a patient with schizophrenia without medications.
Hope this helps you.
Thanks.
