Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 8 year old daughter decided one day about 2 and a half months ago that she didn't want to eat meat. So I started giving her protein shakes cause she doesn't like peanut butter. She eats lots of yogurt and omelets. Now she gives me a hard time with almost everything, salads things she use to eat all the time. She doesn't act sick, she plays and does he homework like nothing is wrong. Do I need to be worried?
Thank you for the question. As per your description I gather that the child is going through a phase which shall pass soon. If she does not want to eat meat, its OK. If she is having enough eggs and yogurts you need not add protein shake to her diet. Salads are good for health but do not confuse salads for vegetarian food or vice a versa. Your concern for her diet is right as these are her growing years. You can find various recipes on line for veg food or food where egg and milk products can be used. She is a growing child trying to experiments with life. These small steps will help her grow well. Just keep a watch on her overall health and let her find what she wants, what is good or does/does not suite her.
